In the art of marbling, tools are used to organize liquid color into intricate patterns to be printed onto paper and fabric. Set includes 5 fully assembled items:
2 stir sticks, 12"
1 comb with pins every 3/8". Handle is 11" long.
1 rake with nails every 2". Handle is 14" long.
1 double rake with two rows of nails every 1 3/4". Handle is 11" long.
• The tools are sized to use in an 11 x 14 inch tray.
• Please note that the pins in the comb are VERY sharp and should be kept out of reach of children
• Photo #4 shows the tools in use and #5 features the traditional peacock pattern on paper made using the stir stick, comb, and double rake.
• Handcrafted from quality wood, pins, and nails. Built to last!
• This is the same product, tried and true, used in my marbling studio for production and teaching.
Marbling is done by floating dye or paint on the surface of water in a tank, and lowering a sheet of paper or fabric from above, making a unique, one-of-a-kind contact print. Tools may also be used to arrange the color into patterns before the print is made. Only one print can be made from each painted design. Each piece is completely original! There is no mass production, no photography and no digital treatment involved.
With the right materials and some guidance, anyone can do this at home. While these tools should be kept out of reach of children because of the very sharp pins in the comb, children under adult supervision enjoy marbling and can produce remarkable-looking papers!
Use marbled paper in any project for which you’d use decorated paper. Bookmarks, note cards, origami, scrapbooking, jewelry and box making, etc. Cut into small pieces, it makes delicious JOURNAL embellishments. Artists like marbled paper for use in collage.
